Only major issue I had was the slab curled up as fast as I cut it. Didn’t need wedges. Finish was fantastic in my opinion. Three small marks where I stopped to check stuff over. It is beech. Could the the curling/stressed wood be caused by not sealing it when I cut the log. Will it be worth continuing? Or is all going to curl?

The curling is not because of the end treatment. Probably had more weight in branches on one side or was not perfectly vertical.

When the piece you cut off curls or bows probably best to work both sides 180 degrees apart down before cutting up the middle. If the part you take off moves the remaining part will move the other way, might not be able to easily see it.

I can see the lower 25% of that log has a large branch removed.

It looks like your saw is operating the opposite way to most CSM operations.
Usually the fuel tank cap is on top and you walk along the left hand side of the log.

This means you can also refuel/re-oil mid log without removing the mill from the log.
This also means the saw is a bit higher up and you don't need to lean over so much?
Also when cutting the last slab or so the saw won't be touching the ground.

Yep Bob, wasn't paying attention when I mounted the mill to the saw. Carried it out there and had an oh'crap moment. But decided to continue anyway. By the time I was done, I wished I had took the time to swap it. It put me down wind of all the dust and chips.

We all experience something like that somewhere along the line! Back in 2007 on the chainsaw forum I was proudly showing off my "new to me" 066. I just draped the chain on the bar to take a photo (didn't tension it at al) but it was only after I posted it that someone saw I had the chain on backwards :dizzy:
