Keep us updated. I am thinking of getting one as well. I have been looking at the 55R & 350, but wanted something with just a tad more displacement.

I put 6 tanks of fuel through the 359 this past weekend. The saw ran real strong and ran well. I was cutting mostly Red Oak. This saw is a strong contender for the "Best Bang For The Buck" Catagory!

Real, real good saw!!!

359 Husky Catalic?

My question is, Why would anyone ever want to put a catalic converter on a saw engine? I understand the reasoning behind this procedure for automive reasoning however, on a two cycle engine? It has been my understanding that a converyter burns the residue that was not fully consumed in the combustion process. OK, simple enough.Lets take this one step further. Look at snowmobile engines. Here in the winters on New York, sleds are as thick as flees on a hound.Smoke abounds from these machines. What about outboard motors? (The two cycle) It seems to me as if some educated idiot has his degree wedged up his Clavin. Please do not get me wrong. I have a Vermont Casting wood stove that has a converter, and the stove pipe is never in need of cleaning. But having a converter on a small saw engine. This is far beyond the realm of common sence. I asked the Husky dealer if he would replace the converter with a muffler from the previous year. I was told that this is against the law. (Husky 359) In my humble opinion, A saw that is able to breath well will run cooler. A cooler engine will run more efficiently than a hot one. What about safety issues? If the saw was being run hard, the converter would be very hot.Would this not be a hazard to the operator? I welcome the comment from the educated idiots members from the EPA. One final note,if a converter on a saw engine should happen to get clogged, how could this be remedied? If and when I buy this saw, my trusty Craftsman drill Will be put to good use. Comments are welcom by all, Ken

I was not aware the 359 had a converter on it yet - when did they start. (I was thinking of buying one myself, but that gives me a reason to hesitate!

There's been some discussion recently about it.  Seems the 359s coming out of the pipelines now have cats on them.  Something about looking for green tank caps and/or "E-Tech" on the saws.

It seems to me that the cats will be both relatively expensive and disposable items.

From the post previous:

Are you sure about that, Kenskip?

359 Thumbs Up

I've got the non-cat, 18in. bar, 3/8th pitch, stock muffler version for medium felling and general limbing & bucking. A great balance b/w weight & power a cordwood burning Joe. The 18in. bar seems to be the best choice as I rarely bog her down even when bored in full. The cover clips are super for air cleaner inspection in the field. The decompression feature isn't entirely necessary (I sometimes forget to use it) but does make the starts a bit easier on your elbow... I even like the way it sounds when running. My favorite saw.

I'm currently helping a friend clear his lot for a farm, and he's jealous. He's got a Farm Boss with a 20in. bar that bogs like crazy. Then again, he doesn't necessarily always keep his chain sharp. Hmmm.

My first post, by the way. Great forum.

Re: cooling( from the 359 manual)

NOTE** The cooling system of chainsaws that are fitted with a catalytic converter must be cleaned daily. This is particularly important on saws with catalytic converters, because the higher working temperature of the exhaust demands efficient cooling of the engine and the catalytic converter unit.

So are we gonna be seeing alot of burnt up E-Tech's on Ebay soon?
