Here is a muffler mod that seems to have released a lot of extra power over stock. and places the exhaust about an inch and a half away from bumper-spikes/wood surface as the saw in in a cut.

This mod dose require opening the muffler up, and gutting the existing plumbing and welding the spark arrestor screen-slot shut. The stock plumbing is attached for the sake of the picture by a wire to show the size gain. Stock plumbing measures somewhere around .357" or 9MM, this mod is to a 5/8th inch dia disassembled automotive aspirator valve, there only 1000 aspirator valves in any given bone-yard, or 1 or 2 on a lot of late 70's - mid 80's cars and LT truck engines, if it had air injection/air-pumps into the exhaust manifolds or catalytic-converters.

Opening the existing exit hole in the 361 muffler, staying inside the external deflector shield, you can gain about 1 square inch internally. By using the metal of the disassembled aspirator valve and hand shaping it as you weld it, it fits the muffles deflector fairly well.

This tube will get an Andy-Mod style screen when Smokey raises the forest fire alert. And did not add any weight once you take out the existing metal.

Sorry shoe.. but that's PLAIN UGLY!!! and a lot more work that the other methods :D :D :D
Hay thanks!

It will be real lovely in a year!

I needed something fast, but still wanted it to be a muffler,,,, running it this way, it was real easy to see why Stihl routs there exhaust from the rear of the muffler, I did my 660 this way also, and not painful with out hearing protection.

Hanging my head,,,, and yours is prettier too! Me sorry!

Not sure how much of a test this would be, but at WOT, and sliding a shutter over the outlet, the 5/8th hole did not show any slow down Intel quit a bet was closed off. I like the power, but don't like too much noise if I can avoid it.

As we speak, was peeling some logs today, starting to snow (again) so pulling a tarp off some not so pricey wood, to the pricey stuff, past the work-bench, the tarp hooked the bar tip of nearly new 361 and kaboing! new saw on the floor!

Not a scratch that I can tell, but it's luck will not hold for ever, my guess, this will match the saw in no time, me thinks.

Do have to say, not even a full 2 days cutting , and this saw is a money maker!
