Just finished installing electronic ignition in my bargain 028. Set the choke, one half pull and she is RUNNING! I am so slap happy I fail at first to grasp the next problem, she is sitting there idling nicely with the choke ON! As soon as I move the switch up a notch VROOOOM away she goes full throttle without touching the trigger! About the time I move to shut her off, she shuts off on her own. Upon inspection I see the switch is so worn out it moved up to STOP on its own! Pulled the cover off to make sure, and there is the kill switch on the contact spring! Carb is set at basic setting and idling on choke, looks like a rebuild for the carb. Also might as well order all new switch parts and a trigger interlock. My latest "bargain" is starting to eat up the wallet, but I love it!:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

Sounds like me. Bought mine for $120, and got another $208 into it! :biggrinbounce2: Fortunately, I've not had to mess with P&C or the carb. . . . . . . . . . . yet. ;)

Think I got lucky getting my 028 av super to go. Hadn't been started in over 3 years. Started on the the fifth pull, old gas and all!.. Never the less I put a new plug, air filter(28 bucks, ouch) and ran some seafoam through it. Runs great now. After scraping off about a pound of grease and saw dust and defoaming the thing it looks pretty good now. Only thing it needs is a new bar, chain and sprocket.

It's always cool when you get 'em runnin'. One of my dirt bike riding buddies gave me 5 old non-running saws two weeks ago, I have two of them running perfectly now - a McCulloch 250 and a Homelite XL2. Matt

Whew.... I got goose bumps. Great to hear 'em fire up for the first time. It does seem axiomatic that all the other problems show up at this time (oiler, gas and oil leaks, carb troubles, etc).
