I'm running 63PM50 on my MS200 (rear handle) and it cuts well. Is a RS type cutter available in the Picco size? It doesn't look like Stihl offers it. I can't tell from the Oregon pics, but it seems like they have a round ground chisel, but I'm not sure. Any help??

I am pretty sure no brand is offering that, at least none of the major ones.

If you want to try a different chain, try Oregon VS or VX.

As far as I know 3/8" low profile or pico is only available in semi chisel cutters.Speaking in generalities with the exception of "climbing" saws the sized saws this stuff is used on would be considered consumer saws not used by the professional user who would run the more aggresive cutters on the larger pro rated saws.

Thx, Troll and Al; that's the conclusion I'd come to. I think the 200 would handle an aggressive chain - no problem; a little quicker is always nice. Troll, I'd planned on trying one or both - I'll report back when I do.

To clarify, am I correct that 'picco' chain above is different than the .325 pitch chain that Husky uses on the 346XP, 350, etc? If so what is 'low profile' about it?

The chains you refer to is probably 95VP/H30 - they are narrow kerf, but not low profile - totally different story - but they are not made in (full) chisel either.
They have a much narrower rounding on the cutting corner than regular semi-chisel, though......

Yes indeed the chains are different.

Long time ago before global warming and the political climit of today, these small saws ran 1/4" chain, basically the same type used on carving saws. You could get this small chain in varies type cutters, chipper, round chisel and believe it or not round chisel skip.

Along came wizards such as Ralph Nader to protect mankind from itself and through the process of the "squeeky hinge gets the oil ",caused these type chains to be taken off the market. This along with Corvairs, convertable tops on autos and a whole host of other things, thanks again Mr. Nader.

I suppose depending on the saw as to what is available, these small saws could possibley be changed to 1/4" .As I understand it,chisel is available in the form of carving chain. The stuff is rather pricey per drive length plus at that size it takes quite a few to make a chain loop.Other than a tiny little toy "hotsaw" I don't see the point .

Two different manufacturers way of trying to make a chain suitable for lesser powered saws. One made the .325 narrower and the other one made the 3/8 smaller all over except for length. They don't mix.

Gotcha!

Thanks guys, I'd just never encountered the term 'Low Profile' before. I see the Baileys catalog has a few .325 chains available but the mother lode of variety belongs to the 3/8 !

isn't the stihl 23RS full chisel? If it is you could run that on the 339xp.

It's a great chain for milling. Very small kerf and will stand up to an 066 full comp with 24 in bar. Can't get it here except through logosol sold as stihl PMX chain ( 5 degree angles on cutters from logosol). Smooth ( or smoother) than a band mill.

In Europe I've heard it can be had through stihl dealers, dealers here can't get a handle on the # from the stihl box I've shown them???? Don't have it handy but will post it just to see if any stihl dealers have better luck. Great milling chain!!!!

Yep, I could, but it is not NK, and I don't think it would be an improvement in cutting speed, as there would be much more resistense in the cut.......;)

The 95VP is a pretty effective chain, on smaller saws. :chainsawguy:
