Two months ago I bought one of those Homelite XL-1 in mint condition from a guy off e-bay that was located in Canada. I paid the guy, he shipped the saw, it still has not found it's way here. He put a trace on it, the Canadian Postal Service even called me on the Fourth of July to say they were looking for it, still no saw after two months.

The seller off e-bay has refunded my money in full, even sent it Priority Mail, cost him $10 bucks out of his pocket. I have no dispute with the seller, but I would have really liked to have had that saw instead of a refund.

I know this is wishful thinking but is there still a chance this saw might show up some day???

Makes me wonder who has the saw, someone with sticky fingers at the Postal Service or maybe another buyer offered more money after I bought it legit, maybe it fell off the truck on it's way to my house.

I usually don't get excited about e-bay saws, but I was really looking forward to having this one, but no dice on this one

If he had a tracking # for the post office and they where looking for it I would say he had to have shipped it to you or they (post office) wouldn't have called you. I dont know if the saw will show up or not but I would say that he did ship it to you and its lost in the mail.

I see what you are saying Lotone, when the post office called me direct, that confirmed the saw was shipped to me and not sold to someone else. I didn't think the seller did or would sell the saw to another preson, the thought just crossed my mind is all. I have no idea who these people are on e-bay, you just have have to take your chances, so far I have been lucky this has been the only big foul-up in shipping. But I still want my saw  :D

Its just strange, they can lose a package but they dont lose bulk mail that you dont want to begin with.

Would I care?

If its a saw, I'd rather have the saw show up, if not a refund is acceptable, but I'd prefer the saw.

Bulk mail sucks bigtime, its annoying, and only good to me for firestarter, other than that, its useless. I just toss it in the garbage cans.

Larry,

What post postal service called you US or Canadian ? If they have the ability to track it then they should have the ability to see when it was lost "track of". I say "should have" because I know thwy will claim they do not. I have had a few lost parcels. The best thing I guess is to file a lost mail claim. That can be done even if it was not insured. It is possible the broke open along the way and it was sent to a dead mail center, Your local postmaster should be able to call them. It is amazing the USPS sells dead mail on ebay.

BTW

The bars arrived yesterday

Yes, it's entirely possible that it will show up. If it was shipped with fuel in it, it coulda been sent back to Canada. That's SOP, according to my postmaster, who at the time was debating not handing over a saw to me that came in from Canada "fully fueled"

I bought a saw off of ebay a while back and UPS sent it back to the guy I bought it from due to fuel leaking from the box. I believe they opened it and drained the fuel before returning it to the dude, and then charged him major bucks for contaminating other packages and one of their trucks. The saws really need to be drained of all fuel and oil before being sent. Especially the older saws.

Since the Canadian PS contacted you to say that they're looking for the package, follow-up with them to see if it crossed the border. If so, start whatever lost/missing mail procedures that you can with the USPS. Or go ahead and start them anyway.

Best of luck to you!

I bought a saw from an ebayer in canada a month or 2 back and it took about 2 or 3 weeks to get here, no problem... the seller gave me a tracking number but the kicker was that the only info that the canadien postal system can give from the tracking # is the date shipped and the date received, no intermediate steps along the way like USPS or UPS, fed-ex etc... Not of too much use I wouldn't think.

Guys, thanks for the advise and stories. I am still new to this shipping game, looks like there is always something to learn. So it is still possibly the missing little Homelite could still show up, if I file a claim. That is good news to hear.

Thanks

It seems to me the seller should be the one to file a claim (and probably has), particularly since he refunded you.

this is what has happened to me, first how did he send the saw to you normal mail or ups or something along those lines cause here is what happens, once it hits the border and is not regular mail it gets sent by a different company donot ask me why but it does, and then tracing gets alot harder to do and when it gets to your town and the people donot know you it will sit there without you even knowing its there.

I had 5 saws sent by air mail from the states to me and when they got to the border , 3 went by UPS and 2 by puralator, but everysaw ended up at a different store and one saw was 35 miles away from me, good thing they knew me cause the tracking number said they couldnot find it but I had it in my hands by that point so have him check when it hit the border

This is the second saw I have boughten from this seller. I am assuming he shipped it the same way, regular Canadian Parcel Post, when it gets here I get a card in the mail saying I have top go our post office and sign for it to be able to pick it up.

We know it got to the border, but after that who knows.

I have checked our local post office about five times in the last two months to see if it came in, nothing at all.

The seller has done his part at the other end, trying to track this saw down, I'm sure he has gotten his money back also.

Ehp, having all five saws go AWOL at once would be a nightmare, especially if they were ones you were going to work on and belong to customer(s).

if you use regular mail you most times have no problems, but any other form of sending and it gets ugly fast, I have not had problems but if it gets to customs then that is where they need to be looking

Until a few days ago I have had no problem sending saws to Canada, Germany, England, New Zealand, france, and others. Now I have a saw that is lost headed to Canada.
