New to the forum and already addicted!I have freinds that do alot of chain saw milling (none live in the area)but never done any myself but am in the process of getting set up.Wondering if there's anyone around Fairbanks that does any milling.

When I type in Fairbanks - Alaska into google maps and ask for directions it says I am 15,000 miles away and it will take me 56 days to walk + flying time across the pacific!

Seriously - even though I am on the other side of the planet, welcome to the milling fun house!

Pike, I too thought I needed to see someone, or talk to them but this forum is strange...shrinks the world down to your desk. These guys point you to videos, photos, so much information you'll miss your summer reading it all. I think you'll get more out of it than meeting 'one' local who's doing it. Post your concerns, you'll be overwhelmed by the helpful responses.

I've been around chainsaws for 50 years but the first person I saw using a CS mill live was me. I got some very useful advice from tree lopper Jeff but most of the working info I got was from this site and an Aussie milling forum, and then lots of systematic trial and error.

I've never seen another person using a CSM. I've had mine since 1983 but with a long gap in there when I didn't use it. But still, I have not seen another one in use here.

I started useing a CSM on the Kenai, in the 70's... It didn't take me too long to figure out i was going to end up with something much easier and faster than that. lol
