I haven't used the 404. In 3/8 it seems the Oregon stretches a little quicker. In Bailey's they have the Oregon micro chisel 404 built on a heavy duty chassis. Is that what your comparing it to ?
I wish the Carlton teeth had the line on top to run your file paralel to like Oregon or Stihl.

Never ran thier 404, but run the crap outta thier 3/8.

It seems to hold an edge better in filthy wood, and the high silica stuff.

I have noticed lately that right out of the box they are slipping up on the grinding a bit.

Must have hired a new guy or something.

Just takes a file and a few Minuites to correct a bad gullet or whatever, but it is annoying on a new chain.

Stay safe!

i bought some bar and chain combos a while back in 3/8 . haven't used them much but the seem ok, but got a really good deal on them so that makes it better to start with. also bought two rolls of chain but yet to try a loop. i don't cut every day so if the quality is not as good as other chains it's not a big deal for me but if i cut alot and made my living with the saw chain i think i would spend the extra to get stihl chain or invest in some carbide chain of some sort, but that is me
