This saw is a MAC3200 got it used. I think it is a 98 year model.

As you can see the chain oil cap thread is partly missing. The thread is moulded into the case. I doubt anyone can find a case, since Maculloch is now onwed by a Japanesse company and is no longer making old parts.

Any suggestions?

That would not be me would it ??

Seriously though, if you really look & have the time, you can get some great deals on used saws.

I get saws from $5-$30 at the local flea.

I have gotten about 6 really nice ones this year.

Mostly older homelites & a few macs.

Throw that mac 3200 in the trash (or give it to your kid to take apart & "fix it" )

I got an old blue XL-12 @ the flea for $20, put about $30 in to it & it runs like a new one.

Got a super 10-10 that is almost as new. ($10) still have to do the "Once over' on that one yet. Just needs a carb kit & air filter.

My saws are all old. I would not touch any of this newer, throwaway homeowner garbage with a ....................

One day I might sell them all & get me a few Stihls, or husky's though. But for now, they are more than doing the job.

cdelwood, Brian's right that it isn't much of a saw but if you want to mess with it - Degrease and then build the bottom thread with a thick epoxy ( a putty type or perhaps JB Weld if you are willing to keep playing as it hardens). I wouldn't bother trying to rebuild the whole thing-just enough to hold the cap on.

Nice old saws Mike.:)

Before you go nuts rebuilding the threads get some clear plastic wrap and fold it over flat on itself a few times. Get a big rubber band and seal it all down with the rubber band. Make sure there is oil in it and run the saw to see if it even oils/works.
Then if you REALLY want the saw try fixing the threads as mention prior.

Thanks Stumper and OW.

Call me stupid, but I like to try and fix a saw before I trash it. I have another MAC 3200 and it runs great, so I thought I would give this one a try.

I will try the J. B. Weld and let you know how it went.
