Last weekend I milled an elm crotch log, one leg was short, one was long. Overall it was 11' long probly 28-30"wide on the stump end. The grain pattern is awsome, I was very impressed, i cut it right when the bark falls off easy, making the edges real smooth. Just wondering if elm is a decent log to slab, it was the first one ive done. Had alot of water in it, they were very heavy at 2.5" thick. I'll try to post pictures tonight. Just wanted your thoughts on elm slabs

My roof was partially decked with rough sawn elm after a fire approx. 70yrs ago. Can barely put a nail in it by hand. But it's still solid as could be. Some warping is the biggest complaint. Thank goodness for nail guns!

I'm sure it was what was "freely" available at the time. Any pine had been logged out long before.
