We were out plowing and one of my co workers dropped my knife, didnt tell me, and one of the plows scooped it up. Now it sits somewhere in a snowbank waiting to be found in the spring.

Until then I need a new EDC (every day carry). I had a Myerchin with a Marlin spike which was brilliant for untieing knots. http://www.myerchin.com/A377P.html

I like the rigging/sailing knives. I am looking at three others as well.

And the David Boye knife which is handmade/hand ground.

Anyone have any experience with these knives? What do you carry thats good for cuting ropes with? The new synthetic ropes we use are hell on blades!!

We use prunning shears for cutting ropes, other then that, I have nothing of importance to add to this thread.

I like the Spyderco knives, and have had the Endura and Police models (links below). I prefer the black pastic handles over the all metal, although the Police model is very cool. The belt clip keeps the knife close at hand, and the hole in blade allows for easy one-handed opening. Just don't try to take these through the airport! I haven't seen any models with the marlin spike, but I didn't look through the whole catalog.

My two cents...

I have a Wichard 10032 which glows in the dark, it was primarily purchased for boating and as a rescue knife. Would have preferred the 10062 but at $165 for the 10032 couldn’t justify the other…

I now also have a Buck, solely for rescue, permanently on my harness, shave with it if needed… Cross between Police Knife and SBMF with a spot on the back end of the knife to attach a mini clip to hang from the harness, cant find the model on the site?

I have been looking for a knife that locks in the closed position for a while now and havent found one. Do you guys know if they even make these. I have had alot of knives and I have had them open in my pocket leaving a nice cut on my finger.

I have thought that being in a tree with a knife would be great if I could get one that locked closed and open. That way I will never have to worry about it cutting me. Anyway just wanted to throw it out and see what kind of response I get.

If I cant get one with this type of locking mechanism do the more expensive ones have heavier springs to keep them closed?

Thanks
