The market for actual tree trimmers per say is low but a lot of the landscapers are saying there a full trimming service but with my exp they are filling the cust full BS because they mostly contract out to others to keep there own contracts with the apt complexes and such but the landscapers are starting get wise to let others come in and trim the trees so that it keeps there insurance down. take me for example I sub out to about 10 landscapers here and they keep me hopping but it also keep there workers comp & gen liab down a lot.

Well there is a few less trees as of today...I live in Northern Arizona, where actually there is quite a few trees, most foresters and ecologists would say that there is too many trees. There is quite a few companies in the area (Flagstaff) and a few that do work on the utility side. Right now the work is abundant, there's a lot of storm damage, including many hangers in elms and maples. Seen some great heading and topping cuts on many front yard trees today.

I lived down by Alpine a couple decades ago and there were logging trucks coming out of the mountains loaded to the hilt with pine and going back empty all day almost every day.  Maybe some day I'll get into the digital age and get a scanner to post some pics here.

Yes I have worked in AZ. I had good and bad experiences.
The company "Groundskeeper" is great. Quality tree work. Their equipment however, was lacking. Nevertheless, they stand by their work force and create an enviroment to grow professionally.
I worked at a small company, run by a "born again Christan". That was the worst experience in my life. I got a close up-look at what "Jesus" is all about.
C&J Tree Service. If you have a CDL. are a CA, and a CTW, plus First Aid/CPR cert. you will start off at 10.00/12.00 per hour.
Then there are the tree companies tiring to make headway into the Tucson area, from Phoenix. In Phoenix, the INS is not as active as in the Tucson area. The labor costs are greater, FYI-no illegals. So, in my experience the best way to make it, is on your own. I worked for a company trying to get a hold in Tucson, and we ran out of gas, because they did not have the money. Our crew of 5 plus equipment sat in a parking lot for 6 hours.
I love Tucson.. as far as working for anyone... that is...
If anyone has any specific questions they would like answered about that area please contact me. i would love to get back there.

10-12 for CA, CTW & CDL? That seems really low, w/ that many credentials and a 3-5 yrs exp. i'd be thinking more in the 15-22 hr range plus benefits. Maybe just different areas i suppose.

Mr Bowler, I'm pretty sure i've heard of the co. Groundskeeper. Last year i flew down to Mesa,AZ. The Arizona arb. ass. held the 1st annual climbing champ. I remember one or two of the guys competing told me they worked for co. you mention. Were you one of them?

I am an x business owner. 10-14, year round employees. Office/field.
What ever happened to the Inc. verifying the working rights/SS of employees? What about the big fines that were going to be imposed.
This whole immigration thing is so political. Depending on where districts are located. and the nationalities involved.
Equality is more and more being a corporate decision.
Listening today to NPR I heard a great analogy in regards to the first Pres. Bush. His quote about "New World Order" the definition being, dismantling the US as it is to bring equality world wide. Manufacturing, labor cost, consumer costs,i.e. food, fuel, shelter and mortgages.(Pres Bush speech today about an "ownership" nation as opposed to renters)
Anyway, before I sound like I care...

In regards to if I was the person you saw in Mesa, give me a description.

i just remember meeting two guys from Groundskeeper down there. Couldn't really give a good descrip however.
I was the only guy there from Kansas.

Illegals or not, 10-12 w/ good exp. is terrible. Even in south florida where illegal help is abundant it wasn't difficult to find 15-18. I think we can seperate ourselves from the illegal's by a bit more than 3-5 hr.

Either way, my 2 cents

This is what I keep telling my wife who wants to move down there. I just can't justify uprooting my business here to go to Arizona. It just doesn't make sense from a business point of view.Though, I can definately appreciate the weather there right now.

It is really nice in AZ. If you go try to work north or south of Phoenix.
Starting your own business there would be a good idea. just keep it small. Be prepared for a lot of driving also. I don't know why but it seems the busy time of year is the summer. From the end of May, until the begining of October you can count on the days being 95-105+ every day. It cools off during monsoon season for a couple of hours a day depending on where you live. What you spend on heat in the midlands in the winter, will be spent on AC half of the year in AZ.
I was not at the seminar in Mesa.
