I'm looking to try to mill with this saw and was wondering if anyone had any pro's or con's about this saw as I didn't see any posts about this particular saw.

I'll be using a 20" bar with Granberg Chain Saw Mill G777 and oregon ripping chain.
Your thoughts and comments are welcome. I'm interested in hearing about the limitations as far as types of wood and bar size. I realize my limit with this mill I've reached and was looking to upgrade once I have a few logs under my belt with this one.

I milled with mine when my 2100 took a dump on me. I only milled 16 inch or so birch but it did well. Worst part about the 390 milling is the exaust gets blown out on your right hand and it gets dang hot. I was a bit worried when I first started using it because it runs such high rpms, but after a day or so I became confortable that it would hold together.

I can't see it being a problem. I use an old 281xp for a lot of my milling, and it works like a charm, and in fact the 394 I also use doesn't cut a whole lot faster, most of the time. Both saws have dual ported mufflers, so I second the warm hand, twice. But a good pair of gloves takes care of it.

I have been using my 365 Special on my mini-mill with a 20" bar and it cuts great. I'm also thinking of getting a 24" bar to try because it has plenty of power. Your 390 saw should be quite capable of milling with a 24" bar easily.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your comments. Everyone is terrific on hear, alway eager to help. I've lurked on here for quite a while now and learned from all of you. Finally I have a saw to mill with a hope to share some of my experiences in the mix. I will try to make some boards soon and post the outcome.
