The reason I ask is, in the wake of Sandy we had some very large oak trees come down on my neighbors property which is about 10 acres. One is a white oak tree that is at least 40 inches in diameter and has branches (1-2 feet in diameter) the size of average trees in that area. My neighbor burns firewood, but he wanted to see if someone could mill it instead of just burning it. He would want some boards in exchange. And I would be interested in seeing it done also, and would help if needed. There are also quite a few red oaks down as well. If anyone may be interested please pm me. I do not mind helping as I would like to learn how to do it myself. We are located by Freehold NJ.

Thanks,
Charles

This is on of the trees... If I don't hear back from anyone by Thursday, this red oak will be made into some nice pieces of firewood. The tree is about 32" in diameter at the trunk, and about 2 feet 20 feet up.

Well guys, half of the tree is no longer up for grabs, its a shame. It would of made some nice planks.

That's a good lookin' stick. Woulda made some nice boards. Too bad we're too far away to have made the trip.

That is a bunch of pasta (noodles)!!!!

I tried splitting it by hand, 15lb monster maul just bounced off, the 8lb maul stuck in, and the big ole steel wedge buried itself halfway and would not go any deeper. And after working out my back and shoulders the day before at the gym I was too sore. So the Stihl 650 Magnum made my life a little easier.

I have never seen as many old growth oaks go down in South Jersey as I have in the last year, starting with the wind storm that took Egg Harbor Twp. and Mays Landing by surprise last year at the end of June. 42" diameter trunks were not out of the norm. Sandy didn't help matters either.
