"To fell a tree" - by Jeff Jepson. Just wondering if anyone has read this book yet? I have half a mind to buy it but want to get some feedback. His climbing book is awesome.

Nope, but I did order it just to see if he knows everything I know... :monkey:

I can give you a review in a week or so.

Good book. TFaT has the same artist with the clear simple drawings and step by step explanations. I am coming around to the open face cut for high risk sticks because of Jeffs simple logic on WHY you use different cuts. I love the stick trick he shows for guaging height. Way simpler and almost as accurate as a clinometer.

In all, although matching a book like the TCC is a tough ask, he does a decent job with To Fell a Tree. I rate it 8/10. :)

Oh yeah, I forgot I said I would post a review. That was some time ago.

If you're learning to how to fall some wood, it's a great book. Lots of good, basic information told in the same Jepson way with good pictures. A lot of things explained.

Overall I had the impression the book was well written, but I was hoping to get a little more out of it like I did with the TCC. But then again, I was learning to climb with the TCC, but I've been falling trees since I was a kid. Still, there were a few good tricks I did learn, a thing or two I had already learned but I needed to be reminded of. I've passed it around among the guys that work with me, and I think some of them have gotten a lot out of it so it was worth my money.

what book to not breack my neck ?

I'm looking at maybe getting book mention above. A hang mans noose is all Ill need to know if I destroy my wife's roof ! :chainsaw:
I need to fell a sycamore about 18-20 inch circumference its about 25 feet from the house with a branch hanging over house maybe 200 lbs - 4in. thick doesn't look to difficult but then
Also these trees are sacred to some and don't want any voodoo coming my way is there a ritual I need to perform in order to satisfy local spirits for this ?
What book/books would be good for setting up climbing lines system and cutting for proper controlled drop of branches n stuff :dizzy:.
I used to climb trees with tree girth about 25-40 in. 40 feet tall or so, as a kid no lines or hardware like a caterpillar slow but steady !
I should probably change name to log man as I'm not thin any more.
very cool forum ! thanks
