Hi, new to the site, older to the trade, just wondering if anyone knows anything about a product called the "Rattle Wedge" or is currently using it for popping out a few heads, from what i can gather it is a ratchet style coarse-threaded cone shape that is placed behind a back cut on a scarf to assist in leverage beyond center of gravity.

Can you post a picture or site to give us a clue?

My web search didn't come up with anything.

Ya I saw it at the TCI expo. It looks like it would work great, but at around $200 bucks? I'll be using plastic wedges!

I just watched the video... I don't think it's something that I'd ever use. For the size logs that this guy was using it on... I could just as easily push them over. If they were bigger, just use a rope... for pulling logs over, I'm far more confident in a groundie with a 1/2" line than having to worry about that thing.

That was my thoughts also. I prefer plastic wedges, or my OLD standby wedges cut from seasoned dogwood. I have some that I've used for almost 20 years.

I'm not sure why you'd need the conical shape any thicker than a wedge or two. With wedges you have the weight of a pocket sledge though that's no real issue. If a situation isn't clear-cut we use a rope anyway for positive control. It is always nice to see folks thinking about alternative solutions, as that leads to some real innovations that make working even safer and more efficient.

2nd that.

Plastic wedges are cheap, and already have them. Rope have that too.

If you were a one man climber doing removals....then i could see if being used...but who does full removals by them self.

Best of luck to who ever invented it though...
