Anyone using one of these yet?

In lieu of using the bicycle pump, and knowing that I sometimes must make multiple shots with the BS, I'd consider toting my aluminum air tank pre-pressurized to 125 PSI for refilling a big air rifle.

That would save on time. Still won't buy one. Won't use a Big Shot either. I believe one actually has to develop the skill of throwing the bag. If all your toys break then what are you going to do.

Ludicrous. Do you drive a truck? Use a chipper? chainsaws vs. axe & crosscut saw?

I like the BS. This thing seems a little much. Kinda like the thought of lugging around a grcs, electric drill and generator just to cut down some trees. Air tank.. lol, that's good though.

Yes, I drive a truck and use a chipper. On the east coast I don't need to throw a line 100' to reach a climbing crotch. If you don't have the skill to throw a line by hand, you should consider working in a different field.

I don't have a BS and sometimes a little more velocity/range would be helpful……Will I be buying one….Very unlikely. Making one? possibly but still unlikely…..

I regularly make throws in the 50'-60' range. Out here we have cottonwoods that are 140'+ with 30' spacing between limbs. When you work in trees that are smaller than the dead branches I remove daily you should consider not telling people what field to work in. On another note I got the chance to try out an APTA the other day and I think I will be picking one up. Took about 30-45 seconds to get up to 200psi (thats with a bike pump) and blast a 12oz weaver well over 100'! pretty cool!

Oh relax, go play with your toy and don't shoot your eye out.

Takes about five seconds to pull back and take aim with the BS. And you don't have to look like a tool doing it. Pretty damn accurate too. Don't know why anyone would wanna mess with all that. Seems like the issue has already been resolved.

Look up "pneumatic antenna launcher". I made one similar with PVC. Tank is probably too big, takes more time to fill. I can shoot a 16oz tennis ball to 90' with 65psi. You could use a paintball bottle CO2 adapter instead of a compressor or pump. It only costs $5 to fill up...you would get lots of shots out of one 20oz fill.

PS: I use a Big shot now.

I dunno.....cause I'm (finally) starting to like using my brain to seek easier and faster ways to get a job accomplished. This translates into using a backpack blower instead of a broom & rake. Even though I have the "skill" to use the latter. Ditto for the Bigshot. Skill has got nothing to do with it. It's kinda late in the game for me to consider working in a different field even though I suck at both foot locking and throwing a line accurately and consistently over about 40'.

I use anything that works, and enjoy trying new things. I have used bow and arrow, throw bags, sling shots of many sizes, as well as air launchers. I think it cost me about $30 to make a huge sling shot, the air launcher cost $15 to build. Mostly, I use throw bag, but find the air launcher puts the bag more precisely in the place I want the rope to be when the tree has tangled branches. It also took much less time to master launching the bag accurately. I made mine with sights and air gauge so we can consistently put most of the bags in a 8 inch circle at 100 feet. For getting into a low point nothing beats a throw bag.
Often we put a rope or cable in a tree that may need persuading to go where we want it to be without climbing by using one of these methods.

I get it. As a group we tend to like shiny new things and cool toys that can shoot stuff. I have even used a BS when they first came out but I prefer to throw by hand. I just think the BS and this potato cannon tends to make us lazy. What happens when you're on the job site and your toys break? Pack it up and go home? Being able to accurately throw by hand is a necessary skill. IMO.

I get (some) where you are coming from too.
My toys occasionally get abused and broken by inconsiderate brutes. No good comes of it.
Verbal abuse fails to modify their behaviour.
Why can't rakes come factory equipped with stronger handles?

The trigger for the BS is handy, really makes accuracy easier
