Gentlemen:

I would like to work with an experienced climber for one week. Actually, the techinical aspects of climbing are not my main concern. I want to see how you handle rigging and removals. I want to see the equipement you use, and how you use it.

To this end, I am asking if anyone would be willing to let me work on their crew for one week as a volunteer. I'll grease the chipper, or rake, or carry your tools or whatever you need. I just want to see an experienced and dedicated operation at work.

Granted, none of you know me other than through this site, but if you send me a private message I can give you some background.

I have already volunteered with one of the larger local services and have been doing work on my own for about 6 months, but I'd like to take the opportunity to see how others get things done.

I am willing to travel as far as necessary w/in the lower 48 states. I would like to do this sometime in the next 2 months.

Thanks.

Steven

Totally true; you are nuts imo to work for free jsut to see rigging and removal. You should be able to get paid to cover your travel, at the very least.
If you want to learn tree care along with tree removal, email me.

I agree, there's no reason you can't be paid.

Working with a diverse group will certainly net you a broad spectrum of little tricks and tips.

Note Guy mentioned "tree care"... that's important too, so try to get some time in with someone who handles PHC, cabling/bracing, diagnosis etc. as well as the usual pruning and removals.

Maybe you could take a tour of the states? :D

Let me know if you get out near the Bay State.

Guy:

I tried to send you another follow-up e-mail, but it appears your mailbox is full. I'll try again tonight (Monday, 1/12).

Master Blaster:

I don't consider it radical at all to travel somewhere and spend some time learning from someone with superior knowledge.

There's quite a few guys that have done it. All seems to have enjoyed it.

I do it myself, on a much more limited range basis. I just like to meet other tree guys, swap stories, and have a ball.
