Apparently it was my lucky day

I was helping a buddy cut up this tree after he had someone else drop it. I got most of the way through with my 25" bar, rolled the log over and found this (the cuts shown were done before I rolled it over)

It's almost as if my bar detected it and turned a bit to the side. Or maybe the lag screw compressed the wood and as a result the bar followed the path of lesser resistance? Or maybe it was JUST MY LUCKY DAY!!

After I saw it I called my buddy over to show him. He remembers putting the lag bolt in years back but he couldn't recall WHY he put it in.

were you noodling a hollow piece and those "treasures" were inside?

No I cut it first it was solid then I found those splitting the wood with the splitter. The piece was a 34" sugar maple on my in laws farm they just bought.
