The Parks director's name is 'Clingan", I think it's the same as "Klingon'.

That town like many seems to think that planting is what it's all about--pop it in and walk away until it's time to remove--they say nothing about tree care--you know, arboriculture!

Horrible wage, and they don't even tell you about the bennies so how good could they be?

This thread should be titled "Worst Arbo Job Descriptions"--how bad can it get?

I just stumbled on this page tonight:

http://www.ashland-ohio.com/humanresources/Arborist%20I.html

It's not our Oregon Ashland, but looks like Ohio.

But check out this starting wage range. It starts about $1 over minimum wage, and the job description requires climbing skills.

Amazing? Or not amazing?

Unbelievable! I can't beleive that they're asking for someone with tree climbing 'experience'. Any municipal jobs here in the UK would require any climber to be Certified. The real big suprise for me is I always thought that the standards over here were based on industry standards in the US. Those wages sure do suck too.

Im relocating to the US at the end of May and given posts I've read on other topics of a similar nature I may have to rethink my business!

Unfortunately no job is imune to lower wages. Better get used to it as it is the way of the new world order.

Just ask the boys and girls at Delphi or any other job that has come under the knife.

It is the new corporate knife.

it says must be skilled in the methods of tree climbing. that does not necessarily mean one must actually be climbing, but one must understand the climber in the tree and work in assistance with the climber. i.e getting ropes when needed, pulling hangers, giving a perspective from the ground angle if a limb or log will fit, etc. A ground guy needs to understand the methods of tree climbing to properly assist a climber.

Then how do you explain this: "Tree climbing experience is required."

I can say that, I am not surprised. The max pay scale is a little on the high side for similar jobs in the area. I betcha they had a hundred applications for that position. Ashland used to be a decent town, but has fallen to corparate america. Most of the business have closed down and moved out of town. There is little left in the low income town. There is a large university, and IMO that is what keeps the community afloat. That and Farmers.

I live about 30 miles east, and am starting to see the same trends here. I am not trashing on Ashland, as there are some legit business's, but I foresee my town will soon be subject to the same. When there are a shortages of jobs, the people will work for lower wages. My Father, who was an Engineer (R&D) at Rubbermaid for 32 years, is now working for crap wages at a local Wally World. Talk about a kick in the balls......

Check out the Impeach Bush thread, some people think the economy is doing awesome and things have never been better, they also think Bush had a good personal war record, among other things. Race to the bottom, feed the starlings by feeding the cows......the delusion is rampant.

It is Arborist I, or entry level. This means with pay comensurate with skill, one could start near the top.

So the median pay for an entry level climber with basic skills is ~$11.00

One cannot search the site to see if there are level's II & III and what the scales are.
