Apron chaps & Wrap chaps. Whats the difference?

What are the differences between these two kind of chaps?
Does one offer more protection than the other?

Wraps fully cover your calves while aprons simply hang down in front and are attached to your leg with straps.

Aprons are much cooler to wear while wraps are much more protective. I wear aprons while I make my son wear wraps. Do as a say, not do as I do.

I had my two boys with me, ages 7 and 11, while out cutting the other day. Some of the wood was already cut but needed splitting. On the way there we stopped at the hardware store and bought them each a 24" ax. They thought they were BIG boys now, and chopped wood for hours with there new axes.
For safety, I made them wear their huntin boots and also put on their knee/shin protectors from their dirt bike ridin gear bags.
And they do as I say, not as I do.
