A buddy at work bought this Disston Mercury from a pawn shop in 1972. Actually did use it for firewood, but hasn't run it in years.
I see that ebay sells a few, but he would like it to go to a nice home in the country. Doesn't want to get invovled in a messy shipping thing. It weighs approx 1.5 kilotons.
Any serious collectors out there?

I can't see the pic either, is it one of the 2 man saws with a mercury-kiekhafer engine?

I bought one of those at a farm auction back when I was a teen for a dollar, it didn't run. I tinkered with it and was never able to get it started either.

Which was probably a good thing!

The image doesn't disply because your link goes to a file on your hard drive. That doesn't work. You have to upload it to a server on the Internet first. That could be at an image hosting service like

OR, upload it to arboristsite as an attachment. For a "how to", take a look at this thread.

:dizzy: Whoa! There is a saw that weighs 3,000,000 pounds????

Three million pounds?

Yeah, I guess you woiuld have to be a pretty serious collector! :dizzy:

Or maybe you meant kilograms, which would be 3.3 pounds. Pretty light saw!

So, just how much DOES it weigh?

No, I do believe the weight is properly measured in kilotons.

A kiloton when used to measure chainsaws starts as a constant and then after about 20 minutes starts slowly increasing exponentially, until your arms stretch enough the saw is resting on the ground when the operator is in an upright position. See photo for further explanation.

I noticed the name "kiekhaefer" on the case, is this the same fellow that had the dominating Nascar team in the 50's?? I kinda remember him being involved with outboards , etc?? Tim Flock drove one of the Chryslers for him,
300's, I think??

100 bucks

My buddy is still interested in selling this thing for $ 100 with no shipping.

That means you set up an arrangement to pick up this saw. You got it for 100.

No Packaging

Chris:
That's the deal. No packaging.
Too big a hassle.

If no one can make an arrangement to pick it up themself. I'm going to buy it and sell it on eBay.

One week countdown.

Sorry

That would look nice in my collection. But if I bought it, I wouldn't have any place to sleep in my shop after I got thrown out of the house.:givebeer:

I have been lurking here for a couple of months and have found this site very useful. I live in Portland OR and would be interested in your saw since I don't have one of those yet. I have my old saws on display in the store I work at and people are most impressed by the two man saws even if they have never run a saw before. Please E-mail me at the address in my profile.
