It really does not matter so as there are not leaks. It depends whether you need cooling and how heavy is the tank material. A ten HP motor and under only need to have a sturdy way to contain fluid over flow. Twelve to twenty five HP will need to address some cooling along with some good containment that will not be a problem Thanks

Thanks for that Ted, it's only an 8hp motor and 18 litre tank so looks fine to bolt down. :)

The common practice of sitting on a sheet or rubber and bolting down really doesn’t help. It’s way too stiff doesn’t do much isolation.

I have used quite a few of these through hole isolators from Grainger. The downside is they are the smallest size catalog available (although I’m sure there’s smaller ones available from other vendors somewhere) they’re rated for a heavier load so their isolation is not as good as it should be. On the upside, they’re easy to mount just drill a three-quarter inch hole in the plate add some washers to make the thickness and install. 3/8 bolt fits most small engines. Another upside is they are positive retention if the rubber fails the snubbing washer holds the device in place. It’s not quite so effective on a small engine because they’re stiff, but it allows for misalignment so that you’re not bending the mounting tab of the hydraulic tank. Works really well on larger power units when they’re mounted in the sub frame and then that’s mounted to the machine.
Fairly cheap at about seven dollars apiece
