I have a 1987 ASPLUNDH whisper chipper with a six cyd ford eng. What is the min/max operateing rmp range for chipping? I dont think its chipping corectly. When I run small branches (brush) through it come out like sticks or smaller branches not chips. Some times its like a wade of junk not chips. The bigger branches, limbs 2-5 inches make big chips. The knifes are new and I adjusted the drum to where durm was hitting then back off just a littel. I dont think could get it any closer. It runs great works great .Am I doing something worg?

sounds like your blades or cutting bar are not adjusted properly, get a manual and set them up right.

Does anyone know how to adjust blades & cutter bar for a 1987 12 inch whisper chipper. Where could I find a shop manual or adjustment info

manual

Michael,
send me your email and I will send you a copy of the manual. Don't use the chipper anymore until you set it up properly.

Make sure your cutter bar has a good sharp edge too.

Sharp blades and a rounded cutter bar won't make good chips.

RPM's

There are PDF manuals for altec chipper at http://altecep.com/altec-manuals.htm. I dont know what year it is for, but they haven't changes much over the years. The manual says that the the trottle is pre set at the factory to produce 2600 RPM at the rotor. I guess you have to figure out the convertion from the pullies that you have.
