Yesterday the average max temp for the whole of Australia (as measured by ~700 recording stations across the country) reached a record 104.6F (previous record was 104.3F in 1972).

Hmmmmmm. Now, let me get this right. We hace a 0.3 degree Centigrade increase in temprature over a period of 40 years. Must be global warmin or sumptin.:msp_confused:
Certainly was warm over here near Port Macquarie. Over 40C outside and about 38C inside. Should have gone and sat in the creek but it was a bit too hot to walk through the bush.:msp_scared:

Over 136 bushfires in n.s.w, Yesterday 44°C/110°F in Narooma till 4.15 pm, 80km/50mph winds. Till the southerly buster came through at 4.15pm which dropped temps by 15°C in about 15minutes. Sydney was still 34°C at midnight, their hottest night since records began. Sure glad i don't live there!! So glad i live less than a kilometre from the ocean. Went to the beach yesterday afternoon but it was closed due to a shark sighting. We just can't win at the moment!!! RFS on standby but luckily not needed locally, we have been very, very lucky here on the south coast. Friday is going to get hotter again with severe wind gusts so lets hope no major fires anywhere.Arson being blamed for around 25 percent of fires.:angry2::chainsawguy: Been a rural firefighter since 1976, SAME #### DIFFERENT DAY.:msp_glare:

i did think of you today bob. i heard the same thing john did and also a bit about raging wildfires. global warming freaks me out. stay cool bob!

It might just be me but it seems that fire ball gets a touch hotter every summer. I always keep a big ice water cooler with me at work or play. Please do the same fellas, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Sweet nector of life.

Early Jan we usually go camping to the south coast to escape some of the 100+F heat in the city. While home is 100+F the campsite we go to on the south coast is typically mid 60s - low 80Fs, but this year it hit mid 90F's for 3 of he 9 days we were there and it was pretty humid on the other days. In the 20 years we have been going there it has only hit 90's before on one day. Not that much fun camping in that sort of heat.

The other eye opener is the temperature of the southern ocean. When I was a kid it was icy cold up until Feb and then it would warm up for a few weeks before cooling off (apparently it has something to do with a warm ocean current coming down the west coast of Australia) This year it was warm in Mid december with more and more fish from warmer waters are coming further and further south - things do seem to be changing a lot faster than the pundits said it would.

It is a heat wave here also 40 degrees Fahrenheit and rain in Minneapolis, Minnesota today. It will be back to a more tolerable 12 degrees Fahrenheit by Saturday. Rain and sun really tear up the cross-country ski trails.:msp_angry:

Sounds like conditions are bad down in your part of the world Bob, here's hoping that we hear some good news from there soon. Hope you are keeping healthy and busy with the shop!

Cheers Dan,

We're back from our annual down south camping activities but it's still way too hot to even think of milling here, may have to go back down south again!

3 more weeks of vacation and 3.5 weeks of work and then I stop working at the University.

Things have gone rather strange as I seem to have developed a sort of lethargy, even though I have air conditioning in my home shop so I can't give that as an excuse, things have sort of ground to a halt as there is no urgency to do anything as I will have heaps of time after the end of Feb.
