Hello all, I've encountered a few arboricultural companies recently and their rates are very varied for the same job. For example one days work in London on a nice wide open bit of land, reasonably substancial pruning/limb removal of a fair size Sycamore, same levels of public liability ins and all 3 man operations (one climber and 2 groundsman). What would you think was competitive for this kind of work (ballpark)??? The most expensive is twice that of the cheapest. What do you guys think?

You're dealing with tree guys so it's a crapshoot, that's standard. The quality of work and production varies a lot too. Some guys stager onto the job site and take break after break while others come focused and pound it all day. That's how it is here in the states anyway.

Go with the cheapest, what's the problem?

Back when when we had a big storm and I was too busy to do all of my jobs I hired a contract climber and his groundman for $600 a day but the climber was top notch with all of his own gear and truck. I needed someone who I didn't have to babysit and could trust to handle anything on his own as I was trying to keep up with sales calls and climbing for my own crew. That was for storm work though. When I contracted years ago I did it for an old friend and employer and got 1/3 of the job but I did everything from start to finish, including handling the sales call and bid.
