Hi.
Have a Stihl 028 Super Wood Boss ...
When I shut it off something stays spinning for a couple seconds.
The saw shuts off the chain stops but I can hear something free wheeling for a couple seconds.
Any advice would be helpful.
Thank You

Is that an inboard clutch saw? The clutch is threaded onto the end of the crankshaft so the only way it could be spinning with the saw stopped is if it trying to unthread itself and come off. Start the saw up and hold it wide open and apply the chain brake. That should tighten it up. Or take it apart and tighten it manually.

Yes its a Stihl with the clutch inside behind the sprocket.
It has been doing this for a while now.
I bet I have ran 10 tanks of gas through it and every time I shut it down I hear the same spinning noise. Like something is free wheeling inside.. yet nothing is moving out side.
I will pull it apart and get back to you.
I just didn't want to go on a wild goose chase if someone had experience with this.
Thank You,

Good to check the clutch torque on the shaft too, that big cupped washer behind the clutch could also be flipped around wrong. S028 clutch torque is over 35 ft-lb.

Had an 045 come in once that was ran a long time with a loose clutch, the washer behind the clutch had cut a deep groove into the crankshaft threads. It also made a ‘spinning’ noise after shutdown.

Hello all. It was the large cupped washer behind the clutch spinning. Not sure why. The nut was really tight. I pulled everything apart cleaned it up. Put it all back together and it no longer spins. So the noise is gone. Amen!

Thanks for all the advice.

Glad you got it sorted out and thank you for the update. A lot of folks just ask for help and never post what they found.

There is a needle bearing inside, suggest greasing, and maybe replacing if so noisy? It might be trying to TELL YOU something.

Captain. Not sure what your saying??
No gag just a regular guy trying to fix his old saw.
Thanks for the responses.
