I'm going to take a look at a 6" bandit this week, any pointers on what to look out for? It's the 25hp kohler, probably an older unit with no service history. The current owner isn't a tree guy, bought it at auction to clear a block and found it lacking (obviously).

I'm not too fussed about the engine - reco units are available for a reasonable price and I'd be happy to repower it with a 35hp gasser. There isn't a whole lot to go wrong on these chippers I'm guessing... bearings maybe? Any pointers welcome.

Thanks,
Shaun

I know some have that auto feed on the little ones and that controller is expensive. I would shek that out if it has one.

The axle & wheels supplied on the older ones supplied with gas engines are kinda small; ie. marginal.
Might want to repack bearings ASAP before towing it any distance if you decide to purchase it.
The hydraulic valve at the back that controls infeed roller (forward/reverse) was changed by Bandit years ago to a more robust unit cause the old one could get trashed pretty easily.
It's only the minor little stuff that I can remember hearing any issues about.
