We have been running Woodsmen chippers and Vermeer stump grinders for awhile now. For our big machines we are still going to stick with Woodsmen havent seen anything that can keep up with the 790 yet but for a smaller chipper under 10,000 lbs we decided to get a Bandit 1890xp Brute (just bought it today).
Bandit Industries, Inc.

That chipper got us to take another look at bandits grinders, I demoed a 2890XP (85hp) today

I have to say I was impressed by it, we tried out a vermeer SC852
SC852 | Stump Cutters | Equipment | Vermeer

for a couple weeks and I think the bandit grinds better then the vermeer.
Does anyone have experince with these machines? I think we would get the 97hp version of the 2890XP if we go the bandit route, I really liked the lack of electronics on the bandit, very simple to work on. Any thoughts?

From what I have seen time and time again......................

Bandit always surpasses Vermeer. ALWAYS.

I will never own another Vermeer product.

What have you owned of Vermeer? What didn't you like?

With the stump grinder bandit comes with a 5 year engine, 5 year structural, 3 year Hyd pump/motors warranty. Then add the fact that the 97 hp version has almost no electronics

That bandit chipper you got will last you a long time. Also if you want something that will out chip the 790 take a look at the Morbark 20r. The 790 is awsome yes but that morbark will out eat it.

i owned a 625 6" and the badit is better.

Used a 1230 turbo several times. Bandit 200/250xp A LOT better. Used a Vermeer 1800,broke down, clogged and wood got stuck under knives. Then a gusset broke loose inside the drum.

Vermeer and there feed wheel design is dumb. Good way to get someone hurt.

As for Grinders I prefer Carlton with a Sandvik wheel.

Morbark makes and excellent machine. if they are popular in your area youre good to go. A bit pricier than Bandit..

Around here, it seems morbark dominates the chipper market. We have 4 morbarks at are work, one of them being a 17" that was bought over 20 years ago and it is still going strong.

Lots of different grinders being used around here, but all the new ones are carlton's.

Bandit makes solid units all around, I doubt you will be disappointed with your choices.

We tried a 20R with a loader but it couldn't keep up with the 375hp 790 heavy duty grapple model, nothing out there has 23"x36" opening unrestricted to the drum. Doesn't really matter we don't have a morbark dealer anymore the last one went out of business. I am more interested in input on the stump grinders, we already bought the bandit 1890

Nice to know that the grinder has little electronics on it. SG's electrics cant handle the vibration of a grinder. Vermeer chippers have and to the best of my knowlage always had weak shafts. The BC 18-2000 have drums that crack. If Vermeer came to my shop tomorrow, and offered me a free ginder of my choice, in exchange for my beat to hell 1983 665a, I'd tell em to get ####ed. When Bandit first made stump grinders, a rental place by me sent them all back cuz of control issuses, but that was a long time ago, Im sure they straigtened it out by now....
