I have NEVER pinched a bar or needed a backup saw!! I am currently using milk crates to move my gear from the garage to the back of my truck and my spare bars are in cardboard covers - sticking up and over the edges - and are always getting caught on something.

How do you guys transport your spare and different size bars. Did you make a hinged case with slots (that's what I'm planing on doing) or what other ideas do you have? Something like a large hard sided pool-cue case.

My spares get more abuse laying around and snaged on ???? than in the wood on my saws. Yes, I'm anal-retentive, brought up by a German engineer so every thing MUST have a proper place. His old school ideas/training has served me and my tools well

Thoughts, ideas, pictures.

I'd give some of the larger plastic Rubbermaid containers (commercial pallet totes or ActionPacker models) or those big plastic in-vehicle storage containers a look. I currently use a gray commercial Rubbermaid hinged-top container for my smaller bars (up to 20") and saw gear. It is one of those ones where the top is two pieces, hinged on the outside. I am able to fit as many bars (up to 20") and chains as I need, along with oil, chaps, a couple sets of safety glasses, a couple sets of ear muffs, gloves, wedges, files, tools, a roll of shop towels and/or some shop rags, and a hatchet or mini-sledge all in a box that is always packed and ready to go.

Sitting on the shelf, the saw box is ready to go. All I have to do is grab a powerhead or two, pull the correct bars and chains off the wall and toss 'em in the box, grab some mix gas, and I'm ready to go. Total time to load the car with saw gear: less than one minute.

Here's another container idea, this one came from Lowe's for $30 or so. This one is full of tools, recovery gear and emergency supplies and stays in the Jeep. I have a bigger version that I can get one 075/076, an 066 or 7900, and an 026 into, along with bars up to 32" and all the gear I'd need (in addition to or in place of my regular saw box). The bigger box just barely fits in the back of the Jeep along with this box, which is kinda nice. It also has a completely flat top and is large enough to serve as a table, a bench, a work surface, or whatever when it is removed from the vehicle.

I use the larger of the action packers for gas, oil, wedges, chain, chaps and helmet. Since I have a Dolmar chainsaw case that doesn't have the separate bar guard, I just drop my 24" bar in alongside the saw.

try this out

I don't need to carry mine ,but how about an old plastic gun case you can cut out slots in the foam and line them up you will have room to put chains, plugs and tools in there also .

The guncase is a great idea. You can get them for only 20 bucks or so. Only problem I can see, is that foam will hold moisture and cause rust if you store them in it all the time. I know of many guns being ruined because of storing in these foam cases.
