bar gauge question

OK, I know this may seem like a stupid question, but I haven't changed out sprocket tips on a bar.

Let's say I buy a 3/8 050 bar. Now I want to use .325 chain on that saw. Can I just change the tip out for a .325 tip and run .325 050 chain?

Or for milling, if I want to run a .325 chain on my 084 can I buy a bar in .404 .063 and just change out the tip to .325 and then use .325 .063?

Yes, that is correct. I have never changed a tip myself but Jeff Sikkema changed a couple tips for me once on some new bars so I could run .325 instead of 3/8.

I haven't...but I got the saw out and ready to go yesterday. Found an extra Bing gasket kit to send with it. It hurts to see this saw go.

i'm not 100% but i don't think it is as simple as that........i don't think you'll be able to find a 325 tip with the same profile as a 3/8 or 404 tip/bar. 325 bars are usually much narrower than a 3/8 or 404 bar.

Buy the roller nose bar from GB and use any chain of the correct gage. Jeff was a supplier of those I think. With one of those you can run .325, 3/8, .404 or 1/2" chain just by changing out the drive sprocket. Mike

Ken, I converted a few .325 bars to 3/8 by changint the tips. Powermatch bars will accept either .325 or 3/8 tips.

Bill G, The GB roller bars use a roller nose that is built into the bar, not like the old Oregon roller noses that were riveted on.

If you find a .325 tip of the correct size it will work.
