is there a dn side to making these oil slots in the bar larger..
the one on my stihl 026 w 16 is twice as big as the one in my 372 bar..
thinking about drilling all my bars..so why not.. any advice appreciated. thanks

Tony - have you had any problems with the 372 burning up bars? Are the bars the you are comparing made form the same manufacturer? Before my 372 threw the rod in it, i never had any problems with the bars and 'lack' of oil. I ran either the standard Husky bar (i believe this is an Oregon product) and Windsor bars with no problems. I wouldn't think by drilling the hole out wouldn't cause any problems....other than a larger hole to eventually get plugged. :)

yep . thats kinda the way i see it..really never had much problem on the 372 ..
except plugged holes an such..think ill do it anyway.. i aint messed up a good thing lately..lol

The cheap junk bar that Husky has for the 346XP has a nice big oil hole (which is about the only good thing about that bar.)
That great saw deserves a much better bar - that's another topic.
But the bars for the bigger saws, which are nicer, have the tiny, sharply angled oil hole (which I don't prefer.) Go figure. I might do some drilling, too.

Good thread, I have to clean out the 3/16" holes on my 041's every time I fire them up. One has an Oregon bar and the other a Windsor. I'm wondering if a 5/16 x 3/16" slot would work better or just make it easier for the wood chips to pack in?

Just for kicks put a Stihl bar back on it and see if it keeps plugging up. I've never noticed the problem myself and now wonder if the dam in the groove behind the oil hole doesn't just keep the oil on the chain but blocks junk trying to follow the chain into the bar too.

thats a thought glen. i had an 036 that seemed the oiler didnt keep up with the
saw.. it was a rollomatic.. but i cant remember what the oil hole looked like..
one factor is the saws been remodified recently.. its faster now,with8 pin instead of 7an the same type bar.. i guess that would make it call for more oil..
now wheter enlarging the hole is gonna achieve that remains to be seen..
to be honest im thinkin about going back to 7 pin anyway.. definitly hard to find anything that could pull it dn with that on it..we ll see..
