I own a small tree care company in Winnipeg, MB. January is always inherently a super slow month. I would be very interested in helping out in BC after all the storms there have been. I've been a climber for 5 years and a certified arborist for the same. I have all my own insurance and gear. Anyone with info, can contact me here or [email protected] .....and the Canucks rule! Thx

does'nt seem to be much interest from the GVRD, City of vancouver or Province of BC in hiring subs, I've made the rounds to 5 different municipalities and offered, but the general consensus seems to be "that will take away jobs from the union employees".

You have to be well known to the municipalities here to get any work. They require you to be a Certified Arborist, fully insured (5 million liability, WCB) and you usually have to know someone to get "in". We get some work from municipalities, as does my FIL's company. It is there official policy NOT to hire out, but they sometime do depending on what's going on. Most municipalities already have contracts with outside companies for chipping, clean-up, etc. They are not really equipped to handle it themselves.

And the stuff they do themselves, they take for freakin ever, its totally riduclous, I work in Victoria, but Im not a arborist, I just cut wood for firewood. There is still piles of branches everywhere waiting on them to clean up. At this rate they will be doing the cleanup until 2008, watching them is painful.

b.c. work

I'm only part-time but plenty busy. You could easily come out as a climber and sub for a company. Lots of people scared of their trees and I find it hard to reassure them when a tree I thinned popped off 6' up in the next storm!

But the municipality thing, yeah, not likely and I agree they are taking forever. I see the trucks parked in the yard a lot, no O.T. it seems.

There are lots of companies in Vancouver, Burnaby, North Vancouver all in the phone book should be online
