I was wondering if any one knew the angle that you should use for the model 511a bench grinder. I Don't know which one to use for the angle one. It goes from 90 to 45 degrees on the back it tilts the head 90 is streight up and 45 looks to be the correct one but I just wanted to check. Thanks

Dan, I have the tecomec but I think it is the same. The contour of your wheel makes more difference in the edge it puts on the top plate than the top angle does. Only if you put your stop low and cut deeper into the tooth, will the side of the wheel control the contour of the top plate cutting edge. I think the directions call for 60 degrees but you can set over to 45 and make a more aggressive ( and quicker dulled ) chain. The wheel contour shoud pretty much match the shape of 1/2 a 7/32 file for 3/8 chain.

Hi DMoS,

A mistake that I made often and I think is common is to try and grind too low on the tooth. As Crofter has more or less stated, you are grinding the tooth with the profiled portion of the stone, not the side.

Gypo has alot of experience with this model grinder, perhaps he will help out.
