I'm looking to buy a new all around saw to replace my aging poulan. I've had bad luck tuning the carb on this model, and it can't keep up with the maintenance required on several acres full of oak. I'm torn between husqvarna and stihl saws, but the one thing I'd like from it is for it to be commercial grade.

I have one and highly recommend it. No carb tuning , its done by a microprocessor.

'Easiest tuning carb'? Well many would suggest a Mtronic or Autotune system would be the easiest most maintenance free. But I don't really agree as I went to tune my Mtronic saw the other day cause I'm a real good tuner, got my prized tuning fork and spent near a hour trying to find the tuning screws, its like they are hidden or something.

Looks like I may be going with the stihl 193t. It's not really an all around saw but it's very nice, they don't have any mtronic saws in my local stores, but they sound like there are more things to go wrong. I assume if there's electronics governing the fuel mixture, and they are always making adjustments, those parts might be a source of failure. It may not be a problem. I have a freind who's had a poulan for over 20 years and has never tuned the carb.
Let me know if I'm hanging myself here with the 193t. It goes for a pretty penny and I'd hate to be kicking myself later

I'm not impressed with my 193t. For less money, you could get a pp5020 and the screwdriver to tune it. Throw in a 16" bar and a couple chains and you're still money ahead. Neither are pro-grade though.

I agree with the pp5020 for a cheap option. $200 brand new. It's kind of heavy but not too heavy. I take it in the tree to chunk down trunks. There are a lot of negative reviews about them. I don't know if I just got lucky or I haven't used it enough, or I just keep it clean and correct fuel mix... but mine has been good for about a year now.

Also Stihl ms 211 or 251, $300-360 i think.. I have a ms 210 and it cuts very well for how small it is.

A lot heavier but good option is a Craftsman 3.7 or Poulan 3800. Old saw but its 61cc and with a muffler mod it really rips. You could probably find a used one for a good deal. I got mine rebuilt, new lines, new plug, new cord, etc for $215, put a new power match bar and its really worth it. Rips.

If you have to go with commercial grade saw I couldn't help you because I can't make that decision myself.

What? you can't tune your carbs in Cali? Why not? Are they using the carbs that have the screws hidden inside the carb or what? I don't get it since its as simple as using a screw driver in many cases. If its not that easy the tool is usually available on ebay for less than 20 dollars I thought. I can understand it being prohibited but that don't necessarily mean people still don't do it. I am in Arizona and I am wondering if I moved to Cali can I bring my saws and stuff along with me legally?

Because the EPA controls our lives and our saws are computer controlled,
Look at the specs on a MS201TC,,, here,,,http://www.stihlusa.com/products/chain-saws/in-tree-saws/ms201tcm/
