Title says it all. New to saws. I acquired another 42 special saw recently. Has a bit of carbon build up on the exhast port. But otherwise piston looks clean. What is the best way to remove carbon buildup? I’m to nervous to scrape it, worried about scratching the piston scraping it.

Would soaking it in seafoam for a couple hours with piston up work? Then wiping it with a rag afterwords? Read somewhere this is a good method. Used seafoam before in my truck and it’s a good product.

Run echo red armor or amsoil dominator mixing oil and it will clean it out while you're running it.
Without tearing the cylinder off the saw it's hard to clean it manually, use sea foam and something plastic or wood to scrape it out, they wont scratch the piston.

Thank you. So just running good oil overtime will clean the exhaust port up a bit? It’s not too badly gummed up like I’ve seen on some weed eaters. just a little bit of carbon build up.
