I'll be using a bobcat 743, one additonal laborer, I'm doing the climbing, and have been asked to haul debris from past storms off as well. It's a 18 hole golf course and would be an intelligent bid. The golf course is wanting trees cut down, debris removed and possibly trim the current trees surrounding the course. Would like any suggestions to handle this in an intelligent manner. Figured I'd ask the ones that have been doing contract tree work and not just the residential tree service. Thankyou for your comments.

Golf course bid

I'd unload it in the woods, without driving on the golf course regarding the tree and debris removal.:biggrinbounce2:

Josh;
In my experience I usually tour the course with the asst. supt., each tree is IDed by number, starting with the most pressing need, by species, and by location. eg. [#1] storm damaged oak between #4 and #12 fairway. I shorthand my method of pruning/removal, approx # of hours, and degree of difficulty. Take the materiel to your home/office and work out the price per tree. I am usually allowed to make some dents in the rough, but not the fairway or greens. I am not sure how your winters are there but I leave all that I can for winter work. We use tractors with turf tires to pull a chipper and a chip box. Just like my golf game all my time is spent in the rough. Love those jobs though.

As with any commercial job, they are looking for low bids. Find out if there are any wooded areas that you can chip into or dump chips in.

I've worked at CC's where they will let you dump trees onto the fairways in winter. I give two bids on these for minimal damage or let it fly. Minimal damage will be climbed to skin the felling side so that there are no limbs or nubs...

Ive rented a towable lift to trim along fairways....

Josh, wiltzzy is onto something there with the numbers. In the park District I work in all the major tree have numbers on them after they were surveyed. It helps when the Golf Course Superintendent can say tree # needs to have the canopy lifted or tree # fell down last night and so on. If they are not numbered you might want to include that in your scope of work
