My dad was able to borrow two dump trucks!!

I talked two buddies into coming with us to fill them up with oak (burr) and ash (green). We got permission to cut all we wanted. This is great news for a guy who usually burns siberian elm, cottonwood, and pine. Anyway, Saturday is the day. Four guys, six saws, two dump trucks...does it get any better than that!!!

I will be sure to get some pictures posted!!!:greenchainsaw:

You bugger! (and I mean that in a good way :D)

I just finished repairing a Partner R16 and had no wood to even test it on  so I had to cut one of my blocks in half.

Was looking at an MS361 as well, but again I have no real access to firewood right now so I can't even fool myself into saying that I "desperately need" that saw.

2 dump trucks, 4 guys, and 6 saws sounds like the makings of a nice bunch of pics so be sure to post them up!

Better take a back brace for that 'heavy' wood. Twice the btus = twice the weight per same size round. I cut and hauled 2 cords of hickory and red oak myself last weekend and could really feel it. The 18" rounds like to killed me. They were 24" long and not seasoned.
Congrats on the find!

It may be twice the BTUs for the oak and hickory but anyone that has cut live cottonwood can tell you that the weight is right up there. Some of the heaviest green wood that I have cut and it doesn't produce squat when dried and half its weight is gone.

Sounds like a great weekend. With that lineup of saws you should be spending more time loading than cutting. Unfortunately here in Central Illinois, we're pushing 90F and firewood cutting is the last thing I'm thinking about.

I'm going to go grab a cord myself this weekend. I hope it's cooler up there than it's supposed to be down here: mid 90s. :dizzy:

Yeah this heat is getting bad in Ohio, humidity is aweful. I got the skidder trails cut and about 50 24+ inchers down before it hit thinking I'd do the skidding and enjoy the A/Cin the tractor when it hit 90, but got 3-4 inches of rain the last few days and now its too wet. Think I'll keep felling the rest of the week until it dries out. Might sweat my a$$ off but at least the mosquitos aren't too bad yet.

I do all my gathering in the winter and pile the logs to split at my leisure during the summer. Don't like the woods in the heat of summer.

that is how we do it. we usually stay out of the woods (for cutting and hauling, anyway) from may to september...

things are a lot easier when you don't fight the heat or the greenery.

We run a hunting preserve on the ground in the Fall and winter so not the best option for us unfortunately.

Mid October (after the leaves drop) until first significant snow cover is the best time in New England for felling trees. Too much mud in the spring. Too many leaves in the summer. Too much snow at the height of winter.

Hey chainsawaddict good luck this weekend. Looking forward to the pics, and remember keep it safe. I've got two oaks to cut up this weekend to, hope I can get around to it. If I do I'll post pics to. Going to be hot mid 90s and about 85-90 percent humidity!  :givebeer: :givebeer:

Okay, I only have 2 very serious questions!!

1. Who has the pool or jacuzi!

2. Who is supplying the beer!

Best of luck chainsaw.

I have cut tons of cottonwood, almost all green, Holy buckets it is heavy when green. We are in the same boat, pine, cottonwood and russian olive are about all that is available here. I would love a load of oak, hickory etc... You guys are spoiled!!
