Just a heads up. My brother from North Carolina called today to read me the latest notice from his insurance company (GIECO underwritten by Travelers).
The way I understood it, in the state of NC, they will now only pay up to $500 max for debris removal, for one or multiple trees (yours or the neighbors) that fall and cause damage or completely cross the driveway.
Any of you that storm chase, you might want to scratch NC off your list. Unless you are the low-baller, fly-by-night have ladder-but-no insurance type outfit. I hope all you North Carolinians got a kiss with this one.

A lot of companies are like that. They will pay the 500 for cleanup of anything that is not on a structure. If it on a structure they will cover the removal cost. I've had some say that they would pay for only for getting it off the house, but that the chipping would be under the $500 cleanup. I told them that safe operations required me to chip as I went to maintain a clean and safe worksite. I asked if he was insisting that I work in an unsafe manner. He stayed on site till we got to the trunk, and bucking the trunk ended up in the cleanup.

I have not heard anything like that.. That will prompt me to call my local agent though and see what he says.
