2 acres of woods cleared in SE Ohio. All the wood is mine. Just have to detangle the pile the excavator pushed it into and load. Great time to break in 2 new saws to the arsenal. Dolmar 421 (new favorite saw) and 5100s. Not as fond of the 5100s yet, but am going to experiment with bar length and width if I can. That 421 though is a beast for the size and my first grab from the rack.

Hickory, Oak, Maple, Locust, dogwood, Sassafrass, etc. It all burns. I'll post pics of the take when done. It is impressive. 3-4 cords in and its maybe 1/4 of what's there.

This one has a 16" low pro bar with some better chain added to it. With the upgraded chain, it runs pretty darned good for a little saw. I bought it used and it is much better than what I had been using.... Better built, designed and running than the Stihls I have.

Congrats on the score. I really like my 6400 . I've been thinking about a 421 to pair with it.

Nice score, but if in a pile, have fun. Seems dirt gets in every crevice in the bark. Logs are intertwined and mess. Hate seeing a pile go to waste. Hope it works out for you, got a good start so far!!!!

Yeah. Ditto on the dirty wood. It's actually not been to bad on the chains so far though. Trying to brush off dirt when I can and keeping wood off the ground. Wish they would have talked to me before they had the excavator go hog wild. Rookies.

Oh, and it is a Dolmar 4-2-1, so sayith on the case. 421 not 241.

I have a similar deal on a 20acre track of wood that was logged. When I first went to the site to look at it, all I saw was tops that had been skidded to the landing and pushed in a wad to the side. I was real serious about just leaving and not saying I have even been there. Then I decided to just walk on out the ridge to see what else was out there to salvage. Man what a suprise, they had started dragging the logs up to the edge of the road and then chopping out the tops. I can probably get 20-30 cords of real good firewood without even having to get out of the road. This is all white oak with the lumber being sent to Jim Beam to make whiskey barrels. They only took butt cuts for the most part so there is still plenty of good trunk wood as well as the limbs. Just waiting to get healed so i can start cutting.

Just yanking your chain. My favourite wee saw is:

Until I can try them out side by side I'll stick with my Dolmar and the new Carlton chain my local shop made up for me. Like a hot knife through butter and I don't drop any RPMs cutting through 15" hardwood anymore. Hickory, Oak, locust, Ash, etc. I am in love.....

I bought a Dolmar 421 last year. It's an impressive small saw. I put an 18" bar on it so I don't have to reach as far.

when that happens,, you will be at the top of the major suck list!!!!! and please complete the healing, so you don't end up as before...seen it happen tooo many times....

Oly, I plan on being as careful as possible. I have a plan to work this job I think will enable me to do it with minimal effort. Right now, I cant even pull the cord on a chainsaw. I am going to mount a boom and winch on my 6x10 dump trailer. I will winch the wood and load in 10ft lenghts to be dumped at my wood shed. I should be able to haul a cord per load. I should be able to hual 4 or 5 cords per day to start, just getting the easy wood. The wood over the hill will increase the time factor a good bit. I'll get the easy wood first in case the home owner decides to let someone else have access too. I dont plan on processing any of it until next year since this years wood is set. Location is only about 5 miles from home and easily accessed. You cant see the wood from the main highway and have to go by the home owners house to get to the wood.

if have storage area a plenty,, need more help,, FAST, and get all you can get yr hands on!!!

When people offer the wood I jump. If I can handle it in a 6ft section I just buck it that length and load. The bigger stuff has to be FWL to handle, and there is a bunch of that. The good thing is on the site we have a tractor with bucket. Not on the other end though....
