image.jpg image.jpg This tree has me stumped, I'm fairly certain it's an Ash, yet It hasn't been affected by eab like all the hundreds of white and green ash trees on my property. Could it be a black ash? I have no other trees like it.

I have one like that on my property. I'm pretty sure it's black ash, but it does not have the canopy decline like all of the 100's of other ash trees in the area.
I'm sure it's just a matter of time. Maybe the less mature and other ash species are less resistant, not that I'm holding out hope that my very large double trunk tree will be resistant.

I'll try to get some pics of mine as well, maybe the experts will weigh-in.

Thanks for the input fellas. Like I said, I was pretty sure it was an ash, but the bark, nor leaves looked anything like any ash trees I've ever seen around. It's not a large tree by any means, it can't be too terribly old either. It is part of a fence row of trees that was planted around this old farmhouse my wife and I bought a little over 5 yrs ago. Adjacent to the 5 acres of land in which I call my "yard" I own 30 acres of woods. I have heated our house with dead standing ash from our property for the last 4 winters. And I'll be damned as soon as I think I have all the dead ones down it seems like another one dies. It's a shame really. But back to my pt. this is literally the only Ash I have (that I know of) on my 35 acres of land that hasn't been at least somewhat affected by eab. I suppose it could be a hybrid of sorts, one with better resistance.

Yes, time tells all. You are right about the bark it isn't affected in the least, all of the dead ones I've taken down the bark is off color and just falls right off and beneath it are 100's of little worm looking marks.

It very well may be white ash. Though, from what I've been taught about white and green ash, which are the two most common in my kneck of the woods is exactly what your link shows. Deep grooves in the bark and diamond shapes. Here are some pics of some of my ash splits from my dead standing white or green ash trees (I can't tell a diff between the two)They look nothing like this particular tree however.

Look in the virg Tech link I posted and see what you think.

Almost looks to be a green ash. You'll know for sure in a year or two. Might want to start collecting seed as soon as you can.
