That was a limb about 16", the log is at least 24", maybe a little more. I have a pic of the XL923 with 30" bar for perspective. It's a good thing I used the 923 to drop the tree, on the first cut I hit wire, and then on the top cut of the notch I hit 2 big staples. I'm going back this weekend for the rest of the log.

I was out in my court where I do most of my milling and firewood splitting. A guy from down the road was at a yard sale and saw I had 5 cords of wood stack and asked if they were for sale. I sold him a cord of Hickory for $175. When he saw the Walnut , he said he loved the smell of Walnut and how much for that cord. I said same price, so he bought that one too! By the way, that Walnut is soooo much nicer to mill than the Hickory. It took right at 5 Minutes to mill the 16" slab, Joe.

Nice lookin' wood Joe. I bet he would have paid more for the firewood!

What is your milling set up? Saw/mill/bar/chain angles/rakers? I ask because 5 minutes seems on the lengthy side for a log of that size.

Well you got me. My first reaction to the firewood was "ahh man are you kidding me, in the milling section, really?" :laugh:I'm glad you got some lumber out of the tree.

Yeah, the time is a little skewed. I looked at my cell phone when I started the cut. When I finished the cut I pulled the mill out and set it aside to idle, unscrewed the ladder and set it aside, took the plank off the log and set it on the court, then pulled my cell out to take a picture, and then remembered to look at the time. I'm running an early 70's Homelite Super 1050, 100CC's, 36" bar with Stihl chain, filed for cross cutting. Still use the saw for all my other tree and firewood chores, Joe.

Great post! The slabs look great, so does the heat pile! I bet your local wood turning club (if there is one) is drooling!

I never thought about that. I'm gonna see if there is some kind of turning club in the area. A lot of those sticks of firewood are pure brown wood, Joe.

Got 6 more nice slabs from the trunk, and still have a 50" long fork to mill, only took pics of the three slabs I left for my friend, ws getting tired and loaded mine on the trailer before I thought of snapping a few more shots, Joe.
