Congrats Bster...How long did the install take to complete from start to finish?

10am - 2pm ish. It took some time to fit the surround on the stove as my hearth isn't completely level it turns out. I also plugged them with a million questions, hehe.

Better than expected. I expected it to take until next winter when the stove is really cranking, but I snuck up on her last night and caught her actually loading the stove.

hard to resist when we keep it 68F normally and 63 at night but last night was 78F in the living room and 70F in the bedroom hallway. hehe.

Hello Everyone,

I have 7.5 cords collected since last Nov. and yesterday had my BK Princess Insert installed:

(each picture has details and comments)

Thanks again for the help, was nice to finally realize my "dream." :p

make sure you post updates and let us know how it works in the winter. I am curious how well it will work in CT., not too many of them up here in new England to get regional data. I may be looking to buy one if they are as efficient as people claim especially in New England.

You did a great job installing that insert.
I like it how you also insulated the flex.
Does that insulation sleeve comes with the flex?
May I ask why you decided on the Princess instead of the Revere?
I'm just curious because I have the Revere.

Hi there,

I'm considering the princess insert. I have a fireplace opening that is 24" height and 36" wide. Does the height of my opening concern anyone that has installed this stove? My research gives me the feeling that the connection to the flex liner is going to be tight. Also my chimney is 22' exterior north facing in good condition with clay liners. Oh I live in PEI, Canada. Does anyone have this insert connected to a stainless flex liner with a similar exterior chimney setup. The stove is not common, at least as far as I can tell in this area. An installer said the un-insulated liner will be fine. I just didn't get the vote of confidence from this fella when he said that. I'm wondering about draft and creosote buildup. I'm most concerned about the draft. My wood furnace that is in the same chimney drafts great.

Has anyone ever installed the insert in a tight fireplace by connecting the flex liner first as closely to the final position and then slowly moving the fireplace into the final position having another person on the roof pulling the liner slowly. I have a straight run in my chimney, with a small bend.

I would love to speak to someone over the phone if that is possible. Send me an email. Originally, I was going to install a Pacific Energy Super 27. But the burn time and the comments have caused me to take a second look at this project.

You should pm BKVP and he would be happy to tell you anything you need to know. I have a princess insert In my manual it's says minimum height is 23.5 so you should be good to go. I installed flex king hd insulated liner as well as a block off plate with mine. The way I figure it if your going to do it once do it right. Oh almost forgot your right about the hook up. My dad and I did what you said me on the roof him working the liner into the stove then sliding it in place. There is a nice angle to the rear vent on the stove that helps alot.

You mentioned a Pacific Energy Super 27 and a Blaze King in this post. It sounds like the Blaze Kings definitely have a longer burn time (and larger firebox), but I have had the P.E. super 27 stove as a whole house heater now for 14 years and love it. They are quality units-----have you heard otherwise?

Yeah the super 27 has been well praised in all the discussions. I just want something that runs 10-12 hours on the normal days in winter. How big is your house and is it a 2 storey?

Thanks
