Over the weekend we blew a hose and I have replaced all the lines and now am ready to add fluid. I am wondering about bleeding the lines. I want to make sure all of the air is out of the lines before getting anyone in the bucket. What are the steps are needed to be taken?
It is a Highranger PB model 70 ft boom

I'm assuming that the line you blew was a low pressure line? To your upper controls? Did you match the hose to the right diameter hose? Some of the clear tube have different I.D.'s for different pressure. Post somemore info and I should be able to help. We typically use a pressure bleeder to purge the lines. Let me know more info.

If your unit has high pressure upper controls there shouldn't be any bleeding required. Switch to upper controls, and any air will be sent right back to the tank. Test run the unit from the lower controls first.

No, it was the high pressure line to the upper boom. Thanks for your reply. Now, I am looking for the correct hydrallic fluid to replace it. Have not even started the truck up since replacing the lines.

Make sure it has a dielectric strength of at least 30 kv

Shell Tellus 22 T
Castrol Aerial lift fluid
Kendall Hyken Golden MV
Texaco Rando HDZ
Mobil DTE
Citgo CP

All of these have a kv rating of 30kv or higher.

What do you do if you don't know what brand of oil that was in it? It was red in color. Thanks for all of the options motor,

Almost all of these oils have different colors. The castrol is green, mobil blue, shell yellow, ect. I do not know of any that have a red tint off the top of my head. I can check for you tomorrow though. It also may be ATF. ALC uses ATF in their hyd systems as did some of the cable placers manufactured by Telsta. I have not yet done research to find the dielectric strength of ATF, but this will remind me to so as I have had it in the back of my head for quite some time. I have mixed Tellus with about every other brand and have never had a problem as most hyd oils are interchangable, and ATF is essentially hyd oil. Is the oil a light red? Maroon? or a brighter red? My guess is it would be ATF. Do you have a manual? Check to see what Hi-Ranger used and see if you can do a search for it.

It does appear that it looks and smells a lot like transmission fluid. Do not have a manual for this Hi-Ranger unit. You may be correct about the possibility of it being a dextron ATF fluid. I am trying to get in contact with our city electric department and see what they are using. However they are not running Hi-Ranger so it might not help anyway. Thanks again for all your help.

Hey motor-- Just looked at the dielectric strength of Dexron III is 35kV. This info was found on Pennzoil web site.

if you don't have the manual,, there usually is the grease chart diagram ,, that shows all the lube points... it also has all the grease and fluid types......

we use plain old hydrolic oil,, from the parts store in our hi ranger....

wosrt case you could call TEREX... they own HI-RANGER !!!!

its only a phone call away !!!!!

Thanks bushinspector, That's been a long time question for me. I'll go to penzoil and check out some other specs I've been looking for.
