My computer is acting kinda whacky and I allready started this thread in the chainsaw forum, so please check it out there. I'm going to a big annual farm/equipment auction tomorrow. There are many old saws, that's why I started there. Out in one of the fields are a bunch of old machine shop tools. There is a big metal band saw that has to be 6 or 7 feet tall, the throat is about 3 feet by 12 to 16 inches high, metal lathes, press's. Just a bunch of really cool cast iron tools. I'll take pics at the sale and post them when I get home tomorrow, Joe.

Well the kids fixed the computer so I'll post the pics of the big shop tools here and the chainsaws on the chainsaw forum, Joe

Rarefish,
Is this at the Howard County Fairgrounds? Kind of looks like it.

I'm all the way out near Annapolis. Cool stuff. I'd love to have that smallest lathe.

Joe,

Speaking as someone that has rescued his fair share of old machines, be careful what you wish for with some of those...the parts can be hard to find, so make sure they are complete. On the metal lathes makes sure they have a good amount of the tooling, taper attachments, chucks, tool rests, etc...finding some of that stuff can be hard indeed...the bandsaw is probably more useful for working wood.

Those machines will most likely go very cheap, since they are so hard to move.

The one smaller lathe looks like it could be a Hendey, but the motor is definitely changed and that effects those old pieces. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but most folks want them original. The bigger one looks in good shape, possibly a Monarch. That looks like the better one to me.

Monarch was on a couple of them. I just tought Bob would like to see them. The only one I would like would be the band saw. I think they were all 3 phase motors, Joe.

Sure, almost all quality industrial machines are 3 phase. All of my old and cherished ones are. I do have an old South Bend 9A metal lathe that is 120v, it came out of the Levi Strauss factory.

Thanks for posting these rarefish, I go to the same sort of auctions here in Oz but they are dangerous places for me to go.

That's funny because my South Bend 9A is 3 phase. It's still in pieces on my car port because I can't fit it into my shed.
