Anybody know what this truck would be worth? Or where I should look to find it?

1983 (or 86, I am not sure) GMC C-700 TopKick, 3208 Cat Diesel, 5 x 2 Transmission, RO 110-1 Crane with hydraulics on the boom, two-man basket, 88' with jib, 11 ton.

Body is good, needs repainted but is in good shape. Boom looks to be in good shape, could use painting also. Basket needs the top rail repaired, I can weld that up in short order.

Haven't heard it run yet or drove it but the previous owner said it was a great truck.

This may sell for around $18,000

If it's in good shape i'd say 18K would be a fair price. I'd prolly start at 15K and go from there.

That seems high for an almost 30 year old truck. Those Topkick's were a pretty low quality truck, even back then. That Cat engine, while not a bad engine, is a throwaway. They are not worth rebuilding, most folks just have them replaced.
I would say you have about a $9000.00 - $!0,000 truck there, if it is in good shape. You need to look at it like you are buying a boom assy., and the truck gets thrown in for free. Remember, there is really very little market for a truck that old, and most banks will not loan any money on one that old. So, the only real buyers will be someone who has cash in hand. That really knocks down the realistic price of the truck.

Not sure what the truck is going to go for, $18,000 was thrown out earlier this year when the possibility of it coming up for sale was mentioned to me.

It is part of a lot of vehicles that are being sold by a bank that foreclosed on a local business last year.

All the transfers haven't transpired yet and I am not even sure I will get a chance to purchase this unit. Just trying to get a better idea of where to start.

Thanks guys for your input. If I get out to look at it again, I'll get some picutres and post them up.

Any ideas what sort of inspections need to be done on this truck?

If it is from a foreclosure, then be very careful. If the company could not pay their bills, they most likely cut way back on maintenance, and that truck could really need a lot of work. If you do try to buy it, I would pay a good mechanic to go over it with a fine tooth comb before closing the deal.

I sold my 83 f7000 crane/boom truck a few years ago for $12k. It looked and ran great. It had a lighter duty knuckleboom crane on it than the 11-ton truck you're looking at but it also had an 18' dump box on it which is something you don't usually find on a crane truck.

In an ideal market where equipment is moving well, I would think that $15-18k wouldn't be unreasonable for that truck. However, it's hard to say what it's going to bring in today's markets. It might only bring $12k.

more info needed

I need more info and picts to accurately appraise that truck.
Assuming it has high miles and hours on the boom, and that it has been sitting unused and any maintenance issue it probably had went unattended to, and it's not now certified.
I would guess that truck would sell for about $6000 to $8000 here at auction.
If it has low miles and hours and is obviously in good condition then it would go higher.
Very risky thing buying a boom at auction. Even small problem can be very expensive.
That goes for bucket trucks as well.
