Picking up an new 066 this morning, my guy will do the basics.
Half a tank of gas, 1 cup bar oil, few pulls, fires up and i'm on my way home.
What is the best way to break the motor in, I am headed to my weekend retreat today and will buck 10 cord this weekend depending on the heat.I don't have to use this the whole time. Then in a week or so ship it to Mr. Dunn.

What do you think.

Hi Mark, you`re not saying that your guy is going to put the bar oil in the gas are you? Man that would be a bad idea. On the other hand, if he is sending you out the door with a new 066 and he only fills the gas tank half way and puts a cup of bar oil in the oil tank, he must be one cheap b*stard! Assuming you are in shape for the task, the 066 is capable of bucking 10 cord in a day, this is no exageration. I have a couple of friends who sell firewood and their operation consists of bucking on average 1 ten wheeler load per man per day, split with a multi split machine, I think it`s a Timberwolf, and conveyor to the waiting dump truck and lackey driver. So back to your question about break in, some guys like to run a couple of tanks through with the throttle lock set, no load on the engine. I`ve never done this, I just go about business as usual, except I try not to make any really long cuts until the saw has 4-5 tanks through it, and I like to let a new saw rest and cool down more often. Keep it clean and don`t run it out of fuel. Keep the air filter clean and of course, the chain sharp. It`s better if you check the tank frequently, but if you don`t, shut it down immediately at the first sign of fuel starvation. I`ve always run whatever ratio the manufacturer suggested with no apparent ill affects, but I switched to 40:1 earlier this year after alot of discussion here. I figure that several of the guys here have seen the insides of lots of saws and that made them credible in my mind. I think I`ve covered the basics on break in, dont forget your safety equipment. Don`t intend to be condescending, just that I don`t know what your experience level is. So, your last name isn`t Wahlberg is it? Had to ask after seeing your screen name. Russ

I like to break new tow strokes in by warming them up and then letting them cool down completely. I do this three times. Then for the firsy few tank I keep the load on the motor down. After the first tank I let the motor completly cool down. From then on I run at as usual.
