I made a new thread of this because it was straying from the topic of the thread where it started (female climber).

VTMechEng-

I used a single braid line (yalex), tied the double fisherpersons as usual, then buried them very close to where the knot begins (or is it where the knot ends). I tapered the two tails into eachother so if you run your hand across the bridge you don't feel a change in diameter of the line.

I am doing this technique because I don't like the sloppy feel of having the tails just hanging out there. I currently have a spliced bridge on my own saddle. This avoids the tails hanging out AND leaves no knots. However, the bury required on each side for a 3/8ths yalex is pretty long (compared to the length of the bridge). On my saddle I went for a smaller diameter line of vectrus (1/4", 8000lbs) with a locking brummell spliced on each side. See attached photo. This worked okay, but putting a locked brummel on each side is time consuming. The buried fishermans seems to be an adequate solution.

I just got a new camera, and I see that this pic is quite blurry! I'll work on it.

Should the pics be smaller

ps- I prefer film cameras!

The pics are too big... just go into paint and make it about half the size or a little smaller say 35%.

In order to get the best shot, hold down the button half way to allow the camera to get the best focus. Also if you camera has a micro feature that would help when you are close.

On shots like that I stand back and zoom in. That makes a clearer picture.

What kinda camera did ya get?

Hi Nick,

Won't that Vectrus wear kinda fast?

I just got a 17/40 f/4 Canon L lens, fabulous for wide shots.
I'm jonesing for the new flagship digital Canon, not even out yet, but in incredible demand, price $4500...ouch.

This is shot with my G2 and wide adaptor, so about 26-28 mm 35 mm equivalant.

Cool shot but those are some ugly trees from that angle...

I have a G2 also, those are some awsome cameras!!

I got a casio exilim s3 (3.2mp, not super high, but enough). I think the advice to stand back and zoom in might be better. See it here...http://exilim.casio.com/

Yeah, Rog, the vectrus is already ready for replacement already (ever seen those commercials for the ready made margaritas..."It's already ready already.")

I'll put a pic of the underside (where the carabiner rubs). I think this is due to A) vectran is high strength but low stretch and B) it was woven loosely. A tighter weave would've sacraficed a bit of strength but increased chafe resistance.

Here's the back side...

I shrunk the pic- is this a better size, Carl?

You can see how it has turned the silver-gray color that all things get from rubbing with aluminum. The strands are still intact, but overall, it just looks shoddy. I'd bet mucho bucks that it could hold a hell of a load, but better to replace it now and not take the chance. I love my girlfriend, afterall!

(No, carl, you don't get a picture of her!)
