I prune or do removals, I've done some cabling even a crane job or two.Just looking for a fare days wages for a climber. I am located in Southern New Jersey.

That picture looks like a mug shot. You may have more luck on America's Most Wanted. Wish I could help but if you can't find work there maybe its time to leave Nu Joyzey and follow the money. If I had the nads to quit my job and go full time tree biz I'd say come out here but I don't just yet. There are lots of arborist jobs on Monster if you have'nt already checked. There seems to be lots of work out there if ya relocate.

Its a worthy cause. Hundreds of thousands of dollars and two years have been spent rearing and releasing predator beetles in our area to control the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, and JMCA and Clemson University want to know how well the critters are doing their job. They are looking for volunteers to adopt release sites to assess them over the next 8 months.

On Saturday November 12th a training for volunteers will be held at the Highlands Nature Center at 5 p.m. Clemson staff will be on hand to train volunteers to assess release sites using the equipment provided and special report forms. They will be expected to visit each site monthly from November to June, when HWA goes back into "hibernation."

There are dozens of release sites. Some are relatively easy to get to; some are rather remote, such as the top of Whiteside Mountain. Therefore, volunteers of all hiking skill levels will be needed.

To volunteer or for information on treating your hemlocks, please contact JMCA at 526-9938 ext. 320.

I just got a call from Dave Mattox this morning. Bad ice storm last night in Greenville, SC (see the other thread about it). If you have a reliable vehicle I'd think you would have success storm chasing for a few weeks. A couple years ago I got to meet several members of A'Site through various road trips.

If you're interested then PM me and I'll give you Dave's cell phone number. He is definitely considering bringing in outside help if there is enough work from the storm.

There is a NJ Department of Agriculture lab in Trenton that is also rearing the beetles.

I've been paid by the USFS and the NPS to release beetles

Sorry,no offense intended. Hundreds of thousands of dollars to raise and release beetles? Maybe I'm just stupid but I can't understand why it would cost so much to raise beetles. By the way, congrats of being able to work for the USFS, really. I got a degree in Forestry and tried for 5 years to get in and finally gave up.

I don't work for them...just subcontracted. As for the beetles, average cost to rear each beetle is $2. Check out the pictures I posted on the "hemlocks 80% dead" thread. Each one of those buckets has 2000 beetles in it! That's an expensive bucket! I really don't know why it costs so much. I think part of the problem is that the only thing they eat is adelgid, so finding food for them while rearing may get tricky at times...

Oh yeah that picture was taken in a prison. It is the picture from the ID I recieved while I was visiting a friend in jail. I thought it was funny picture. It must be that prison atmosphere that brings out the worse.

Sava Tree is a good company. I worked for them for a while. Unfortunatly I jumped the gun way too early for a "better" position. Long story short, got layed off in JUNE, and I don't think that company is even working now. My former position had been filled, and a forman pos. oppened up wich I qualified for was filled too. Live and Learn. They statred me as a climber in Ct for a 18$/hr, I'm sure south Jersey is just as good.
