Guy,
Have and older Brush bandit 60 and the Kohler 20 hp motor has seen the ghost. Compression on one cyl is 100 and 120 on the other. Im not too familiar w/4 strokes of this size and wonder if thats enough of a reason why it won't start. Compression feels low as it seems to run on after the starter is disengaged and the general sound of the puff-puff. I asked around and i'm told no parts are available for a rebuild and really can't find a serial # or any Id on the block to confirm or deny. What are repower options and is there anyone who might offer a rebuild of value pricewise compared to the $1800 brand new Kohler Commands available.

In the Central/western Jersey area

go with a kawasaki or honda of the 25-30hp range and you wont be disappointed. 20 hp for that unit is a bit undersized so the extra ponies will pay you back in short order.

I have the 65A bandit with 25 Robin Subaru 1o yrs old and still motoring well.
It will need replacing soon to. I agree 30 plus Horse pwr will be most welcome.
Rocker arms and pins replaced every so often.
Best of luck

Agree on the "underpowered" statement...just can't seem to locate the larger "horizontal" motors.

what's the diameter of the current shaft? 1 7/8" ? Small engine warehouse is where I found the 30hp replacement for my stump machine. Try looking on ebay by typing in manufacturer and shaft diameter. You should at least get a few ideas.

Not sure of the shaft. Don't have it off yet. a few guys have said to check with an outfit in Lancaster( Amish Country)

Kohler

Just replace it with a new Kohler 27 hp or even the 30 hp. I have nothing but trouble from the 20 and 24 hp Honda's. These are throw-aways, rebuilding isn't worth the effort. If you can find a used 35 hp Wisconsin for $1000 or so go for that.
It will only ad value to your machine and make you life much easier.
